Our Mission

Pierce's Crew Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading autism awareness and providing financial assistance to local families in Northwest Ohio. Our mission is to support and empower families by helping them access essential programs and therapies for individuals with autism and other special needs. Our goal is to support individuals and their families by helping them connect with others without financial and social barriers. Through our community fundraising events, scholarship program, and monthly support meetings, we aim to make a meaningful impact in our community.

Our Story

My name is Heather Waite, and I’m from Findlay, Ohio. Pierce’s Crew was created in honor of my son, Pierce, now an adult, whose strength, determination, and spirit as a child with autism still inspire our mission every single day.

My two other wonderful children, Laurel (Pierce's twin sister) and my oldest son Everett, have Dyslexia and at times I struggled to find help for them too.

As a parent, I wanted to support my children in every way possible and help them thrive. While working closely with dedicated doctors, teachers, and specialists, we were able to get Pierce into the programs and therapies he needed; as well as gain support for Laurel and Everett. We were grateful to see meaningful progress, but we also experienced firsthand the financial challenges that come with services not always covered by insurance. That struggle became the driving force behind starting this foundation.

Pierce’s Crew began as a family effort in 2013 with small but impactful awareness efforts in Pierce’s school and neighborhood. We baked and delivered more than 250 cookies to classrooms to help students learn about autism, lit the school blue for the Light It Up Blue campaign, and handed out awareness kits throughout our community. Our neighbors embraced our mission wholeheartedly—many even swapped their porch lights for blue bulbs to show their support.

In April 2013, we hosted our first Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, raising $1,510 for Autism Speaks and Awakening Minds Art in Findlay. This event became the foundation’s first major milestone. The following year, we expanded our impact even further with our second annual Pancake Breakfast on April 5, 2014, at Waldo Peppers in Findlay. This time, we made the decision to keep all funds raised right here in our community to directly support local families and individuals with autism and special needs. What began as a small effort to help Pierce has grown into a community-driven mission of awareness, support, and compassion—and we are just getting started.

At Pierce’s Crew Foundation, our mission is to support families in Hancock County and surrounding areas by helping offset the cost of therapies, programs, and activities for children and individuals with autism and special needs. We provide assistance for a variety of services, including but not limited to:

  • Art therapy

  • Social groups

  • Horseback riding

  • Occupational therapy

  • Speech therapy

  • Ice skating programs

  • Dance classes

  • Music therapy

These opportunities play a vital role in building social skills,

improving fine motor development, enhancing communication,

and encouraging confidence and independence.

Our work is made possible through the generosity of local

sponsors, donors, and community partners. All contributions

are tax-deductible, as Pierce’s Crew is a registered 501(c)(3)

nonprofit organization.
